Dice, lottery tickets, the zodiac, bone throwing, raw linen, bootstraps, climbing rope, rock climbing hold, rifle camo, and magnetic fields are the material concerns of this exhibition. Chance, random and pseudo-random numbers, modernist indeterminacy, casino aesthetics, luck, bootstrap meritocracy, the Californian Ideology, and social (rock) climbing are its connoted ideas.

 

 

Aeron Bergman (Detroit, USA) and Alejandra Salinas (La Rioja, Spain) are an artist duo. They have lived in New York, Toronto, Detroit, London, Barcelona, Gothenburg, Oslo and currently live in Seattle.

Bergman and Salinas have shown work internationally at institutions such as the 4th Athens Biennale; 1st Bergen Assembly Triennial; Turku Biennial in Finland; Fundação de Serralves in Porto; Steirischer Herbst in Graz; The Luminary in St Louis; Eastside Projects in Birmingham, UK; Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna; ICC Tokyo; IASPIS, Stockholm; Lincoln Center and DAC in New York City; e-flux Berlin, Berlin Film Festival; Center for Contemporary Art Glasgow, Edinburgh Film Festival and Dundee Contemporary Arts in Scotland; MOCA Novi Sad; Taipei Fine Art Museum; Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven; Centre George Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo in Paris; IMO and Nikolaj Kunsthal in Copenhagen; Henie Onstad Art Center, Kunstnernes Hus and 0047 in Oslo; MUDAM Luxembourg, among others.

In experimental sound the pair won a top award in digital music at the Prix Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria in 2002 and they have been commissioned to produce sound works by institutions such as WDR West German radio and Swedish National Radio.

Since 2011 Bergman/Salinas co-direct and co-curate Institute for New Connotative Action (INCA), an artist-run space first based in Detroit and now based in Seattle. In 2016 they founded INCA Press.

Bergman was professor at the Oslo Academy of Fine Art from 2007-2013, both have been visiting professors at various international art academies, and they are both currently artists-in-residence at the University of Washington.
