Deb Sokolow

Exhibition Dates:

Feb. 27 -  March 29th, 2015

Deb Sokolow was born in Davis, California, and has somehow found her way to living in the cold, dark, cold (cold) Midwest. She has shown her work all over the place, notably at the Texas State University, where everyone straps guns on their cheeky thighs; at the Wadsworth Atheneum, where minds are preferred weapons; in the 4th Athens Biennale in Athens, Greece; at the fabulous Abrons Art Center (jewel of the Lower East Side) (of Manhattan); at the Drawing Center, also NYC; the gone Green Gallery “West”; in the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen, Germany; and lately regularly at her representative gallery Western Exhibitions in Chicago, Illinios, just to the south of here. Upcoming, keep eyes peeled for a project at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis. She once did an amazing solo project at INOVA right here in Milwaukee, was featured in the MCA’s 12x12 in 2005, and is actively haunting minds in locations and locales simply too numerous to mention here with her wit, intellectual ahleticism, healthy and reasonable paranoia, fervent investigative nature, narrative bent, acuity of purpose, and deliverance of paper, pen and ink into worlds all their own.

This is her first show at Ski Club, and if you need more than that, you’re not paying attention.
